What to Expect During Your Exam
Our eye examination is exceptionally thorough and is designed to be a comprehensive checkup of the visual system and overall eye health.
1. Visual Acuity Test
The first thing we do is measure the sharpness of your vision using both projected and small hand-held eye charts.
2. Color Blindness Screening
We use a variety of color-based charts to rule out any color deficiencies in your vision.
3. Cover Test
This a very simple test to check how your eyes work together. The doctor will cover each eye and examine the uncovered eye.
4. Visual Field Test
Most likely, your doctor will want to check your peripheral vision to detect for blind spots that may be caused by more serious diseases or trauma.
4. Retinoscopy & Refraction
Most likely, your doctor will want to check your peripheral vision to detect for blind spots that may be caused by more serious diseases or trauma.
6. Pupil Dilation
This is the best way to examine the structure of the eye and to assess eye health. The doctor will apply dilating drops to enlarge your pupils.
7. Slit-Lamp Examination
A slit-lamp is like a microscope for your eye. By shining a light in your eye, the doctor can view the inside of your eye to examine the retina, optic nerve and more.
8. Optical Coherence Tomography
OCT is a non-invasive imaging test that we use to take pictures of your retina. It helps diagnose many eye conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and more.
